Qucik Post

It was a long day and I kept waking up to 'Charlie Horses' in my thighs.  I was really tired all day and now I have a headache.

We did meet the mayor and the cultural arts liaison for the city of Copenhagen.  They were quite taken with our set up.  The archive people love showing what we do.  We finished 7 school protocols and indexes today.  We did that even with snail mode on the computer.

We had an interview with President Sederholm this afternoon.  He told us another couple is coming with Family Search.  They will  probably end up on Viborg.

Tomorrow is our holiday for May Day (and Annemarie's birthday!)

We finished the Burial Project!

This is a picture of the two Rebecca's from the Branch.  Rebecca searches me out every time we are in a meeting so I can hug her.  She is a special young lady.  Her sister, Hannah, has started doing the same thing.

This is Sister Sederholm and their youngest son, Jarom.  Jarom just received his mission call to South Korea.  He is very excited.  He leaves the end of August.

This is Sebastian, Christina and Birk (he just turned 3).  Sebastian and Christina hosted our get together the other day.  They have a beautiful home.  My mother would love it - it is all white!  Sebastian and Christina met when they were both with the Royal Danish Ballet.  Now just Christina dances with the company and Sebastian has his own company and dance school.  They are real anchors in the Branch.

We arrived here almost 6 months ago and finally finished the project that we were originally assigned.  Starting tomorrow, we will be doing the children on welfare in the school records.  Should be a nice change.  Today we had just one glitch.  I think letting the computer shutdown for so long really helped.

Today we had lunch on the roof of the office building.  It was a beautiful view - very pleasant and I got sunburned.  However, I would not trade that time for anything.  I love our office mates.  We also celebrated Annika because her contract is up on Friday and they did not renew it.  I am really going to miss her.  We have really bonded.

We began this month with General Conference and ended with Stake Conference.  It has been an amazing spiritual feast.

Tomorrow the mayor of Copenhagen and the council member over the cultural affairs department are coming for a tour.  They are especially interested in what we do.  Should be interesting.

Happy Birthday Carl and Dane!

This is Grandpa with Dane.  This was just a few days before we left for Copenhagen.  I can't believe he is three today.  Carl, I apologize but for some reason I have no pictures of you from last summer.  Happy Birthday!  We are so proud of you and the man you are.

We had our Stake Conference this weekend.  It ended up being much busier than we originally thought.  We left for Stake Conference at 9:30 and arrived there just before 10:30.  At 10:30 there was a musical program of a Stake Choir, a men's double quartet, a duet by a father and daughter and the Closing number was incredible.  I cried all the way through the music.  Conference was uplifting and I will write more on that it the coming days.  Above and below is a picture of Tomas Kofod as he looks today.  He was Christ in the movie, "The Testaments".

For the closing number of Stake Conference, Tomas Kofod sang a solo as the stake choir hummed along.  It was "This is the Christ" and it was so moving that just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes.  He came out to be with the missionaries as soon as Stake Conference was over.  He posed with them and signed autographs.  I think he is one of the kindest human beings I have ever met.  He so freely gives of himself.

This is me with our temple Presidency, President and Sister Williams.  Sister Williams is Reuel and Vonda Christensen's daughter.  We have such a good time when we get together.  We reminisce about Ephraim and Manti together.  We were going to go to the temple on Thursday but it is closed for maintenance for the next two weeks.  Glad we told them our plans.  It wasn't announced anywhere.

After conference, we had a goodbye party with the branch members for the Hansen's.  They leave tomorrow to go home to Utah.  While we were at the party,  our Mission President, President Sederholm (pictured above) invited all of the Senior Missionaries to his house for a goodbye dinner for the Hansens.  We left home at 9:30 and got back to the apartment at 9:30.  It was a full and wonderful day.

Stake Conference Saturday

Today is the beginning of our Stake Conference Weekend.  We will be able to understand at least 1 speaker, Elder Timothy J. Dyches of the Second Quorum of Seventy is here.  That will be nice.

I toted home a tomato plant this morning.  I need to repot it and then hopefully I will have fresh cherry tomatoes.  This apartment gets a lot of sunlight - when it is there.  It should do well.

Not much else to report.  Have a great weekend.

Project End is in Sight!

We will have been in the archives 6 months on May 14.  We would have finished the project originally assigned had we not had to add the indexes (60+ books in deplorable condition) to the mix.  We will be finished by Tuesday.  Wednesday we will start the School welfare records.  Looking forward to the change.

The computer did it again.  It glitched and took forever to download the books we did this afternoon.  We left the computer running - not knowing what else to do.  I wish they could fix this problem.

Daniel was visiting with me this afternoon and asked what it was like in Utah.  Turned out he had visited Bryce and Zion Canyon.  He didn't even realize he had been to Utah.  He liked that he knew something about the vicinity we would living in.  He asked me if I knew anything about Alaska.  I told him that was our oldest Daughter and her husbands domain.  He is seriously thinking about taking his wife there on a cruise, possibly even this summer.

Jeppe left work early because he and his family are heading to Paris early tomorrow morning.  They have tickets for 9:45 Sunday morning for the Eiffel Tower.  I am looking forward to the children's reactions.

April Showers

It wasn't supposed to rain all day - but it did.  Yesterday we were in the 60's but today we only made it to the high 40's.  Tomorrow is supposed to be a prettier day.

We just found out we have May 1 off.  It is the Danes equivalent of Labor Day.  Jeppe gave us a list of the holidays for the rest of the year.  We can't go in on a holiday because the alarm is set.

We did 5 books today but had over 2 hours of downtime because of computer and camera glitches.  Very frustrating.  The archives want this project finished by May 1.  We may be putting in long hours for the next couple of days to get the last 15 books done.  I am looking forward to a new project.

Rainy Wednesday

It was a beautiful day all day until we headed home.  Then the rains came.  It wasn't supposed to rain today.

We had some glitches today - the camera would shut down or Windows.  (Not fun!).  We still managed to get 5 books done.

Elizabeth was telling us about an big article in the newspapers here about BYU doing the Carl Bloch showing.  Carl Bloch is a Dane and is known here for his historical paintings.  Jeppe was surprised that he did religious themed paintings.  We had quite a discussion about it this morning.  Elizabeth is going to bring the article and show is.

We also got a tax form that we are supposed to file.  I think we need to talk to the people in the office about it.  We aren't making money here.  Don't know how that happened.

A work day

Clyde went back to work today.  I stayed home with my sore throat and earache.  I don't know if I am contagious or not but would hate to spread the germs.  Besides, I just couldn't face the long walk today.  Ordinarily that does not bother me but today it was more than I can handle.  Hopefully tomorrow I can face the work day.

Easter Monday

Today was a very laid back day.  I am fighting a sore throat and earache - again.  I just stayed in bed and watched "The Sting" and Star Wars VI.  It seems like forever ago that I watched those in the theater.

For Easter I got a new hand mixer and a new toaster.  We bought them Saturday when we were at the mall.  Finally a toaster that I don't have to worry about burning the toast or not cooking at all.

Hopefully tomorrow I will feel well enough for work.

Godt Paaske (Happy Easter)

In celebration of Easter, here are scenes from the sweet little church we meet in every Sunday.  On the far right of the above picture, you can see the small flag of Denmark they fly when the big flag is not up.  It looks like a ships runner flag but with the Danish symbol on it.

A better view of the flag and steeple.

The side view of the building.  This was the direction we walked until 2 weeks ago when they changed the bus route.

The stairs leading downstairs to the class room area.

The front foyer as you hang up your coat.  The lighted window on the right is the front door and the stairwell is to the left behind the door.  That door leads into the chapel area.

The over flow area of the chapel.  The door in the back is the kitchen.  We are not supposed to take pictures of our chapels, so I won't.  I might sneak one just before we leave because it is very Danish and very beautiful.  Today we sang "He is Risen" and "Christ the Lord is Risen Today".  I missed singing "That Easter Morn".  I know a lot of people do not like that hymn because it is in a minor key.  I love the message in it and have been singing it all day.  It was a beautiful service today.  Our High Counsel Speaker told us that he is one of the people that translates General Conference into Danish.  They listen to the speakers and translate as the talk is given.  Then they get written copies of the talks and tweak the translation.  It is then sent to the Ensign/Liahona for review and publication.  We will not receive our Danish Conference issue until the middle of May.

I am getting to the point with some things that I hear what is said and understand it subconsciously.  For example a little girl was quite irate with her father because he wouldn't let her wander around the bus.  When they got off the bus, I realized that I had understood everything that was said and it had to have been in Danish.

Tomorrow, weather permitting, we head to the zoo.

The flagon with the dragon has the ...

Clyde loves dragons, always has.  This is dragon flagon!  It is from Viking times.  This was in the National Museum of Denmark.  We had some amazing sights there - including the skeleton of a Viking boat.  So neat.  Unfortunately the room was kept dark to preserve it, so no pictures.

This is a fountain with a bear in the middle in the courtyard of City Hall.  I can't wait to see with the water running.

Today was a fun day.  We went to the big mall here - at Fisherman's Square.  We got a new toaster!  Hurray.  We also got a summer weight blanket and some pillows to prop up on in bed.   It was a fun day.  I also spoke to Heather and Heidi this afternoon and evening.  I am blessed.

Good Friday

Tagging (graffiti) is an art form here.  They actually use it to advertise businesses.  Here a 2 of our favorites.

It is Good Friday today.  Everything is closed.  The grocery stores and apotek's are closed.  All forms of public transportation are running on holiday schedules.  Not what we expected.  Tomorrow the grocery stores will be open for 4 hours and then everything is shut down for until Tuesday.  Not what we are used too.

Me walking down one of the four flights of stairs coming from the train, yesterday.

Walking up our flight of stairs just outside our apartment door.

I will title this one, "the end."  This is me leaving the train platform heading for the flight of stairs.

Today was spent in the temple.  We had a great time doing sealings.  Clyde went back this afternoon to help with a youth group from Iceland in the temple.  He really enjoyed his time.

A Day at the Museums

When Clyde and I went to the Raadhus for our tour, I took a picture of Clyde with these gargoyles.  It didn't turn out well, so I tried again today.  This one was better.

"As a hen gathereth her chicks..."  That is what the frieze at the top of this doorway reminded us of.  My chicks are starting to gather!  Andy got the job at Snow College, so the Bahlmann's, Nordells and Bailey's will all be within minutes of each other!

These are ancient runes that were found here in Denmark.  I am standing among the runes!

This is part of the Thorvaldsen Museum.  A member of our branch is the curator there.  We ran into him as he was leaving for some important meetings.  He came back in and told that woman that was selling tickets that we were gratis.  He then told me that most of the statues in the museum are the plaster renderings that Thorvaldsen then carved the masterpiece from.  That is why so many of the pieces were so dirty.  They cannot be cleaned.
Thorvaldsen was commissioned to do what has become known as the 'Swiss Lion'.  The one that was accepted is the lion asleep.  This was the other option he offered.
This is the absolutely original 'Christus'.  It is the plaster rendering that Thorvaldsen did to carve the one that now resides in Vor Frue Kirke.  Christus is the most copied image of Christ in the world.  The museum authorities think that there are several million replicas on mantles or coffee tables around the world.

A close up of the Christ's face.  Thorvaldsen carved this statue with the scripture, "Come unto me..." in mind.

Easter Break

For quite some time, I have been promising pictures of Spring in Copenhagen.  These are trees that are cut down to the nubs every Fall as soon as the leaves fall off.  We have only seen them like this.  Daniel, at work, told me they were umbrella trees.  We were not looking at one when I asked him - so I don' know if that is right or not.

This is another view with a better view of our street sign.  These pictures are taken about 2 blocks up our street.

Some daffodils, tulips and little purple flowers on our way home from the train station.

Two weeks ago, Clyde and I went for a walk and saw, 'Popcorn Popping' every where we looked.  Don't know what kind of tree this is but they grow wild all around here.

A closer look at the popcorn.  It is beautiful here right now.  The weather is supposed to be picture postcard perfect, according to Mads, for the next few days.

We had another glitch today and ended up just shutting down and coming home.  We did get yesterdays files downloaded but not todays.  Clyde is trying to figure out what to do.  We are off until Tuesday because of the National Easter Holiday Break.  Tomorrow we are going to the National Museum of Denmark and Thorvaldsen's Museum.  We are also going to look into buying season passes to Tivoli.  Should be a fun Spring and Summer.

Sun and Wind

Today was a beautiful day except for the wind.  We made it to 15 degrees!  Yeah!  That is Celsius by the way.  I will let you look up the Fahrenheit.

We got 5 books done today and a partial.  As we downloaded our days work, the computer once again slowed way down.  So we turned it off in hopes the glitch would be erased.  5 minutes later 'Window's' had not come up.  We finally decided to shut everything down and hopefully it will download tomorrow without a problem.

Fewer people at work today than yesterday but Mads was there today.  He makes us laugh with his whistling and singing.  Such a great place to work.

We saw the oddest sight today.  I saw this beautiful young lady with waist length hair.  She turned and her head was shaved on the other side.  It was kind of freaky.

We are going to go to the Thorvaldsen museum on Thursday.  We were going to go to the aquarium but apparently record numbers has been visiting this week of Easter break here.  We don't enjoy crowds, so we will wait for an off day.

I have decided that the reason 'Easter' is such a big holiday here, is because it is Spring.  The days are longer and lengthening every day and weather is warming.  What a better way to celebrate than with eggs and little bunnies.  Sadly it has nothing to do with the Savior.

Another day at the office...

There is just a skeleton crew at the office this week.  There was us and 5 other people.  Everyone else has the week off because of Easter.  The train and bus were not bad this morning but the train station was so packed that our bustling to get on the train before it left was like an obstacle course.  We did just barely make our train.  I am so glad.  I have felt beyond awful today and really wanted to come home.  I put some soup on for dinner and promptly fell asleep.  I am running a fever again but it isn't too bad.  I don't want to be sick from work anymore for a while.

There was a big party across the hall on Saturday night.  It filled the apartment with smoke from the cigarettes (that are illegal to smoke indoors) and we had to wear earplugs to keep the din down.  We shut our bedroom door but the smoke and noise snuck in anyway.  I got up twice and opened the windows to air the apartment out.  I still had to boil lemon rinds and cinnamon to help alleviate the smell yesterday morning.  The party broke up about 2 a.m. and then there was another hour of slamming doors while people loaded up their stuff.  Someone from the stairwell went and banged on the door at about 1:30 or I think the party may have gone on all night.  Not a fun way to start the Sabbath.

I have concluded that I am allergic to cigarette smoke.  After the party, I have felt awful from all of that second hand smoke.  I start to feel better and then have smoke blown in my face from the wind and I am miserable again.  It was bad enough with mold and pine trees but to add this - it is going to be one rough year.

'Tis Sweet to Sing...

It was a beautiful Sabbath day.   I know that Clyde and I repeat the same things but then we do most everything together.  The buses we take both changed routes.  Not severely but enough to ensue a bit of a panic feeling until we got our bearings.  Church was fun and enlightening.  The headsets did not work today very well and listening was giving me a headache.  I finally just tried to listen carefully and muddle through.  I think I did pretty well.  For Relief Society I asked a beautiful young woman that just returned from her mission at Temple Square in December to interpret for us.  She was a big help and so pleasant to listen too.

Clyde forget his nametag today and so did both the Hansen's.  His suit is getting so big that he can pull the pants down without unbuttoning or unzipping.  Pretty sad.  Me - I stay the same.

It has rained off and on all day long.  I hope that the rainy weather will leave and we will have sunshine for the next few days.

I have a ham in the oven, with baked potatoes and asparagus.  I need to go and cut up vegetables and dinner will be ready in just a few minutes.  I need to get our lunch ready today so I don't have as much to worry about in the morning.

Sunny Day, chased all the clouds away

It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood.  This morning there was no wind but it has picked up now.  It is 52 degrees and feels like 52.  Yeah.

I just read on LDS news that the missionaries have been moved out of the Crimea region.  They will either be reassigned or sent home.  Most will stay in the surrounding area but a few will be sent to other places.  The missionaries that are in the MTC and have received calls will have their papers reevaluated and sent elsewhere - wherever the Lord now calls them.  We know of several senior couples that went there the same time we came here.  One of the sisters was not happy she was going to the Crimea.  I hope she is content now.

I have been re-reading some of my Grandma Sarah's favorite books.  She loved 'Lavender and Old Lace by Myrtle Reed and both Pollyanna books.  The Pollyanna books turned her life around.  She told me that until she read Pollyanna, she was prone to temper tantrums and pouting to get her own way.  She started playing the 'glad game' and her life turned around.  She told me just a few years before she died that she was still playing it.  One of her brothers told me she was pill until their older brother sent her that for Christmas one year.

The divinest gift of marriage is this: the daily unconscious growing of two souls into one...the highest joy of each is the wellbeing of the other. - Myrtle Reed.  In one of Myrtle Reeds books, this was a quote.  I had to share it because it describes marriage better than anything I have ever heard.

I hope this makes sense.  I have a terrible migraine and I am literally writing around a blind spot.  Plus I am not terribly coherent when I have a migraine.

I'm Glad it Friday

This has been a rough week, workwise.  The computer has glitched with new wrinkles almost every day this week.  So frustrating.  We looked like we were going to be sending SLC a remarkable weeks work but the computer would not download this afternoons files.  We will send them next week and make it look like a wonderful amount of work for 3 days.  Oh well, the work is getting done - just slower than Clyde and  I want it.

We have Wednesday through Friday and then Easter Monday off from work.  Easter is actually a bigger holiday than Christmas, here.  We would probably go into work anyway but the alarms will be set - so there is no working at all.  We think on Thursday we will go and see the 'The Big Blue Planet' - the aquarium here.  We will also go and take a peek at the Thorvaldsen museum.  We have a list of other museums we will see while we are here.  One is the museum of Danish Designs.

We went shopping for some of our groceries this afternoon.  Clyde ran into one of the stores to get my favorite trail mix and some hoisin sauce.  He literally scoured the store trying to find the hoisin sauce (We just bought some there in December).  There was none to be found.  He was gone over 15 minutes.  I was starting to worry, but he was trying diligently to do what I asked.  Such a sweet man.

Jeppe has next week off and then he will come in part of the next week and then take his wife and children to Paris for several days.  They are looking forward to some time together, looking at cultural sights.  Jeppe also did Clyde a huge favor today.  We don't have a printer or a way to fax or scan things.  Jeppe took Clyde's pension documents and made sure that it was all sent properly.  We are so blessed to have such a wonderful friend.

The archives have decided that they like the idea of the indexes being digitized after all.  The books are so worn and fragile that to have this information on the internet while the other documents are being indexed is going to help them immensely.  We had a wonderful visit with Helge again today.  Such a special woman.

We get to have a quiet weekend.  Looking forward to it.

Good News!

Clyde got a letter from his retirement counselor today and we may finally get our retirement this summer.  The amount is smaller than originally thought but we will be able to get by.

I made Blondies for the first time since we left the states today.  Brown sugar is hard to find and it doesn't come in a full pound package when you do.  The blondies are not as sweet as they are when you add the whole amount of sugar and I think I like them better.

Work was quiet today because Mads was not there to sing and whistle.  His neck and shoulders are stiff and he was told to stay home and keep ice and heat on them alternately for the next few days.  We will see how long he stays out.

Annika's daughter, Kaia has the chicken pox and some were in her eyes.  Kaia has a horrible eye infection now.  Poor thing.  She is 4.  Annika and her husband have been taking turns staying with Kaia.

Daniel was trying to teach me how to say 'umbrella' in Danish.  I just cannot say the oo sound like they do.  He finally looked at me and laughed.  He said I might have Danish blood in me but my mouth doesn't know it.

A couple of months ago, Clyde bought me some Daffodil and Iris plants.  I haven't wanted to throw away the bulbs, so I offered them to Jeppe.  He told me that in Danish flower bulbs are called flower onions, because they grow like an onion.  He thought it was funny we called them bulbs like a light bulb.

I have a huge purse that I hate carrying because it is so big.  It was great for traveling over here but I put it away shortly after I got here.  I was talking to the Office Coordinator, telling  her that one of our sister missionaries had been pickpocketed.  Elizabeth said, "Look around.  You will never see a native Danish woman with a small purse.  Big purses deter someone from digging through them.  If someone cannot snatch and grab - they won't." I started carrying my big purse after that and I have to say that I do feel safer.

Blew it Big Time...

Ordinarily at lunch, I turn on the hard drive to download the mornings work.  Today, I turned it off and then on (Clyde had turned it on without saying anything) and messed up the download so badly it took 2 1/2 hours to download what usually takes 10 minutes.  I have to quit being so impulsive and look before I flip the switch.  We got very little done because of that and some rough books.  We only did 3 books and it took over 3 hours of camera time to get that!  Clyde said the Gremlins were working overtime today.  We also had the camera freeze on us and had to turn the computer off twice and reboot in order to get it to move forward.  Just not a fun day.  One of the things we did discover was that when they list whether the women are married, widowed, unmarried or divorced in the indexes we are currently doing - they also list if they have been abandoned or deserted.  We are finding at least one desertion every page.

We got to the front door of the office building as the bus pulled away from the stop, coming home from work.  We decided to take the walking bridge across the water and meet the bus and Dyblesbo (doo bulls bow -with a long o on the last syllable).  This the station just after Copenhagen Central.  It was a rough walk because the wind was gusting up to 30 miles an hour.  Will be a pleasant walk in the coming months.  Tivoli is also open, so we will see about getting season passes.  I look forward to that.  Got my workout today.

Yesterday morning, Pernille said 'Guld Morning to us.'  Guld is the color yellow and I was puzzled why she said it.  She came and pointed to Clyde and me and said, "You are both wearing 'guld' - so guld morning."  We hadn't even realize we left the house in the same color.

Clyde wanted some plants in the apartment to help freshen the air.  He walked down to the Blomster yesterday and bought a gardenia plant and variegated green plant that they call the 'pepperoni' or the American plant, here.  Will take pictures because  I have never seen the pepperoni plant before.  Gardenia's are my favorite flower (they were in my wedding bouquet) and to have them smelling up the apartment is wonderful.

Hopefully tomorrow won't be as windy.  I hate the wind when it is so strong it pushes you off your feet.

April Showers...

We have had several days of rain.  Not sprinkles but rain, so bad that I need to start carrying an extra something to wear at work so my other clothes can dry.  It is always interesting what every day throws at us.

Jeppe had to go in for his six month check-up today, so he was late coming in.  He has type 1 Diabetes.  He was diagnosed when he was 16.  He told me that Denmark has one of the largest Caucasian diabetes populations - usually Type 1.  I started getting light headed and ate lunch before we could eat with the others.  He came in started telling me what to eat and how to eat so I wouldn't have a drop in blood sugar.  I didn't have the heart to tell him that I thought it was because of a migraine headache I had been fighting all morning.  I am glad he cares enough to share his wisdom with me.

There is a young woman on the train car we ride in every morning that puts on her make-up while she rides.  She has already started putting on her make-up before we ever get on the train.  She is still working on it almost 12 minutes later when we arrive at the Copenhagen Central Station.  She has so many concealers and highlighters that they are actually for certain parts of her face.  She is fascinating to watch but you don't want to stare.  I have to admit that she is quite beautiful when we arrive in Copenhagen.  Clyde calls her 'Make-up' Girl.

We ride in the silent car of the train.  We so rarely can sit by each other on the train anyway.  We have become very accustomed to the quiet ride.  Someone's phone rang while we were in that car, one day, and everyone in that car glared until he left the car finally.

The indexes we are doing are rough.  Lots of torn pages and broken bindings.  These are the books that everyone has to look through in order to find the book with the name they are looking for.  It has been interesting but hopefully we will finish it quickly.

A Good Day after a Great Weekend

I had a hard time sleeping last night because I was overstimulated by all of the General Conference we watched yesterday.  I kept rolling through the talks and the music.  Not a bad way to spend the night but I was worn out by this morning.

Jeppe asked what we did this weekend, so I told him.  He was intrigued that we would/could watch the broadcasts from our homes.  He asked even more questions when I told him that in a few days the proceedings would be published in Danish.  I will give him the address as soon as they are in Danish.

We started the indexes for all of the protocols we have done.  We got 7 of them finished today.  Hopefully we can get this project over with quickly and move on to our next one.

New Resolutions

I have said this in several blogs after General Conference, but now is when I make my resolutions for the next 6 months.  I evaluate what I have done and how well I have progressed and then sit down and start fresh.  It is Spring and the time of new beginnings anyway.  What a fitting way to start the new season.  We still have one more session to watch (which we will watch tomorrow evening after work) and then I will fully decide what needs to be my new goals.  I have already committed to doing my 'duty in the Gospel', thanks to President Eyring's talk yesterday.  I am definitely implementing an 'Attitude of Gratitude' as President Uchtdorf suggests.  Those 2 will be my primary goals.

Tomorrow is a new day at work and we will begin the indexes.  Hopefully we can get this out of the way and start on new projects soon.

General Conference

General Conference is today.  We get to watch the first session on Saturday in just a few minutes.  Tomorrow we will watch the 2nd session and Priesthood before watching the Sunday morning session tomorrow evening.  For Family Home Evening we will watch the final session.

Clyde got our taxes done.  It never takes him as long as it did today.  He was very frustrated with the process.  Retirement has thrown several monkey wrenches in our work.

We went shopping this morning and they had Old El Paso refried beans!  Tonight we had tacos and it was like a bit of home.

Enjoy Conference.  We will.

Why is the sky so blue today...only because it's Spring.

Yesterday as Clyde and I were coming home on the train we saw a sight that made us (and everyone else on the train) smile.  It was a class of pre-school children coming home from a field trip.  They were holding hands, two by two down the aisles.  Even if they couldn't negotiate very well while holding hands, they did not let go.  They were happy and chattered all the way through the train.  Children until 12 ride free on the public transportation here.  There are no school buses so it makes it convenient for all.  I do marvel at how young the parents let their children ride the buses and trains alone but the children are confident and know what they are doing.  Clyde and I usually sit in the silent car in the back of the train but decided to move closer to the front, since that was closer to the mall we stopped off in last night.  I am glad we did or we would have missed that sweet sight of the children.

We went to the temple this morning.  I made 2 men cry.  One man when he helped me finish up and another man when I explained that we had just finished the cemetery records for Copenhagen.  It was quite interesting.  The second brother has family in Copenhagen and he hates going to the city building to search.  He is going to look into indexing for the city of Copenhagen.

Just barely made our connections today but we did it.  We scoped out where we will be attending Stake Conference in a few weeks.  Our stake center is being renovated from top to bottom, so we will be using a high school (they are called Gymnasiums in Denmark.  Pronounced Gim-nah-zium with a g like in good.)

It has been a wonderful day.  I will post the pictures of the 'popcorn' on the trees all over Copenhagen.  It is gorgeous.  Love it here.

Full Day

I did go back to work this morning.  We found a bunch of loose pages in the German protocols as we were doing them.  We added them at the end.  I figured out that they were cremation records for some of the German Soldiers.  It was in German.  I felt more comfortable with that than I ever have with Danish.  It was interesting.

FamilySearch insists that we do the indexes.  We will do all 67 books but it seems like a waste of time to me and the officials of Copenhagen.  Oh well.  We are finished with what was originally contracted for us to do.  We will do this and the next 3 projects they have ready for us to do.

Jeppe gave us a party this afternoon, to celebrate our finishing the contract this morning.  Everyone in the archive came and asked questions about what we were doing.  It was very interesting and fun.  I love our office mates.  They were thrilled for us and impressed with how quickly we got the work done.  Hopefully we can get through the indexes quickly.  Jeppe figured out we did all of the protocols in about 60 days.  Interesting.  (By the time you add in holidays and sick days - I think he is right.

I couldn't stand it anymore and got my hair cut.  It was a different place than last time.  Hopefully in time we will get used to each other and be able to communicate better.  I think the sides of my hair are too short but not bad.  I also would have liked the back a bit shorter.  Oh well.  At least I look better put together and not like a bag lady.  The price was half of what I spent last time and $10 less than when I got it cut in Rhode Island.

We finished all of our work this morning and had to wait for the party to start at 1:30.  We went for a walk down a park pathway and enjoyed nature for a while.  At our party, Jeppe served fresh vegetables.  The big hit was fresh peas - eaten the way our family likes them best - fresh out of the pod.  Jeppe had served a bowl full and that was the vegetable that most people ate.  I guess that is where our family learned it - it was brought from the "Old Country".

I'm still home...

...but Clyde has been at work for the last 2 days alone.  This morning he got to work and found out the files he did yesterday were somehow corrupted.  He doesn't know if he needs to redo all the work of yesterday or not.  He is waiting for Chris Norton, our area supervisor, to let us know.  I will hopefully feel well enough to go tomorrow.

I love Danish honey.  That sounds odd but here is why.  It is like the spun honey you sometimes can get in the states - but it is not whipped.  Somehow their cooking process brings it to a candy like state.  I have to say too that since I have been eating some honey everyday, my allergies are so much better.  I guess the old wives tale is true.

Fortunately Clyde was able to download the books he did today with no problem.  FamilySearch wants us to digitize the indexes to the protocols.  Copenhagen said that the new data will be indexed pretty quickly and would be much more informative.  They want us to spend our time doing documents that matter.  We will see who wins.

I finally had time to watch the Women's Conference today.  I sobbed through the whole thing.  Not sure why.

Sick again

I had to let Clyde go to work alone because I have stomach bug again.  It started yesterday but it is not getting much better.  I hope I feel up to working tomorrow.

Clyde had to leave the shuttle drive running.  For some reason the download was taking a very long time.  Hopefully all will be well tomorrow and it will have successfully downloaded.

Not much to say.  Have a good first day of April.
