Murky Day

It is rainy and dark today.  Kind of glad that Clyde is still feeling poorly because going to work on a day like today is never fun.  I need to remember to take a second set of clothes to work so I can change when I get soaked.  It is inevitable during this time of year.

Clyde is feeling better.  He is sleeping a lot but considering the little sleep he got for the first several days because he couldn't breathe and the coughing - I am relieved he is sleeping so much.  It is obviously what his body needs.

We are doing well.  I am praying Clyde is up to going to church on Sunday because that is one trip on the bus I don't like to take alone.

Homebodies

Clyde still has a cough and is exhausted but is doing much better.  I am fine and just rolling along with the 'holiday'.  I have read and done the wash, did a bit of shopping that had to be done and generally just enjoying the autumnal weather.  Was not thrilled to wake up to 0 Celsius this morning (freezing).  However it warmed up to the mid 50's and was pleasant sweater weather.  I fixed Clyde some home made chicken noodle soup in hopes it helps his congestion a bit.  Life is good and it is such a blessing to be serving the Lord.

Another Lung Infection

I can't get the print to enlarge for some reason.  I hope this comes out decent because I can't see it!

Clyde was feeling bad enough to go to the Dr today.  He has another lung infection.  He is on penicillin,  The pharmacist said not to do much until at least Saturday so his body had time to heal.  Last time he was sick, we had no idea where the doctor was, where to get the Rx filled and desperately needed help.  This time we could take care of it all by ourselves.  We pass 3 pharmacies on the bus everyday, so I picked the closest one and jumped on bus 10 and headed over there.  It took me an hour round trip but it was an easy trip.  I marvel at how much we have changed and grown this last year.

Not much to report.  Clyde didn't sleep well last night.  Hopefully tonight will be better for him.  I am having trouble with my allergies but feel really good actually.

An Interesting Day

Clyde woke up blowing his nose.  He insisted we go to work and so we did.  We have decided that bus 10 has shifted its schedule AGAIN.  We will have to go to the bus stop at 7 now in order to make it to work by 8.  At least we know that we will make the 250 bus for sure if we do this.  We got into work at 8:25 because of the tardiness of the first bus.

We did 3 books and finally at 1 pm, Clyde called it quits.  He had been moaning and blowing his nose the whole morning.  I hope he stays home tomorrow if he feels this miserable.  It isn't worth it but I can't tell him that.

There was an excursion to the Royal Theater today with the archive.  They were getting a behind the scene tour along with a peek at their archives.  Jeppe was so sweet to invite us but Clyde was so miserable we couldn't go.  Maybe we will have an invitation like this again.

Clyde is feeling somewhat better this evening after a nap and taking it easy.  I hope he feels better soon.

It was a very good day

We were ready early this morning and took an earlier bus to the train station.  We had to wait 20 minutes for our bus to the archive instead of 5.  However - this way we knew we wouldn't miss it.

We got 5 and 1/2 books done today but for some reason my back and knees were hurting.  I am afraid we have a cold front blowing in sometime soon.

I walked into the kitchen at the office today and Bo and dropped his backpack and then his coat down the hall to the kitchen.  I asked if he was okay and he said he had just gone shopping for lunch groceries and it suddenly became too heavy.  He saved lunch though.

I get the biggest kick out of Jeppe.  He and Helge traveled to Aarhus on Saturday and gave a 2 hour presentation on doing genealogy and what they had to offer in Copenhagen.  There were 15 people there and he was excited for a good turn out.  I would have been miffed after spending 3 hours to get there - that there were only 15 people to hear me.  Not Jeppe.  He is thrilled there was anyone there at all.  He really makes we aware that I need to change perspective.

Woke up to Sunshine

We went off of daylight savings time yesterday.  We woke up to a sunrise this morning.  However by 4:15 it was dark this afternoon.

Church was wonderful.  Clyde sang "How Great Thou Art" and everyone loved it.  He was told to sing it in English because he would be able sing with more emotion.  It was very moving.

We have decided no choir for the Christmas program on Dec 21 but we are going to have a few groups.  The Saturdays in all of  December, we go out and tell people about our Christmas Program with written invitations.  We decided that this year we will sing the beautiful Danish carols as a congregation and sing a lot of them.  That way all can participate in the music.  It is really quite exciting to me that we are doing this.  We will have special musical numbers from the last Sunday of November through the month of December.  I personally would like to sing more than listen to talks but that is not quite why we go to church.

A look back at the week

Yesterday Vanessa Venn came in to the archives for a tutoring session by Daniel.  She started as an intern just after we got here last November and we just fell in love with her.  She left in April for a new job and a new career.  We see her periodically and catch up.  She didn't have a lot of time to visit yesterday and she said we had plenty of time to catch up in the future.  I said we had until April and then we were off.  Vanessa was shocked.  She had thought that this was a long term commitment.  She was surprised that we would leave all of this but we explained that our term was only 18 months and then back to a family that needed us right now.  I had never considered that some people think we are here to stay.

At Bo's birthday, Lars asked what it meant to ride shotgun.  I told him it was from the old west when the driver had a man with a shotgun that was loaded sit behind him while they traveled, for protection.  Yesterday, they were pushing the cart to community lunch and Bo yelled - 'I am walking shotgun to Lars and the lunch cart'.  Clyde and I both busted up laughing.

Tuesday Clyde and I went in for community lunch - as usual - and no one was there.  Turned out that while we were sick, they changed the day to Friday and didn't tell us.  By the time we knew about it yesterday - we had already eaten lunch.  We will now go every other week.

I guess the dark and dreary days are here.  The heater is on in the bedroom and needs to be.  Soups and stews are sounding better and better for supper.  Yesterday Lars said he is now drinking herbal tea because it warms you up better than coffee.  I noticed that the 'tea' drawer was getting depleted quickly yesterday.  Time for everyone to contribute some new boxes.  I bring chamomile and fruit herbal teas from Celestial Seasons.  The thing that surprises me the most is that mine go quickly along with the peppermint tea.

For those of you that don't know - my father fell last Tuesday and has some broken ribs and cracked vertebrae.  He is home.  Please keep he and Doreen in your prayers.

A Good Day

It was a good day.  It is getting colder and the wind always blows now.  The leaves are turning colors and falling off.  Our back yard looks like a tornado went through but it is just the season to look scraggly.  Looking forward to Sunday we go off Daylight Savings time or as the Dane's call it 'Summer time'.

Thursday, October 23, 2014

It was Bo Henriksen's 31 birthday today.

Bo was the young man we were the Nisse to last Christmas.  He brought floodebooler  for all of us.  We were all laughing at how politically correct phrases are ruining our childhood memories.  We had a fun birthday party.

I had a stomach bug yesterday.  I felt miserable all day.  I had no idea how awful I felt until I felt so great today.  We went to work in the pitch black this morning and came home at dusk.  I am so thankful we have the bright lights we work under at work because I would have SAD big time if it weren't for that.

Carianne's surgery went well.  I had not thought I was letting my daughter's worries get to me but apparently I was.  I wish I could be there to hug and help them when they need me.  That is the hardest part of being gone.  On the up side - we have 6 months left!

Happy Birthday Carianne!

This will not be your favorite day but in the long run, this will help you live a healthy and wonderful life.  You are in our thoughts and prayers as you go through this surgery.  I had been home one day from my thyroidectomy when you turned 2.  Dad and Aunt Norma's family had gone all out on a birthday for you because we didn't know how I would feel or if the doctor's would even let me be around you and Heather.  I had gone through a week of intense radiation therapy.  In those days you were isolated from everyone while you went through therapy.  I love you so much.  We will be praying for you all day.  May the rest of the  year be one of your best years ever.

A Full Day of Work!

After being out for 2 weeks, I made it back to work for a full day.  I am so tired tonight but it was good to be back.  Everyone came and found us to tell us how they missed us.  That felt good.  Daniel loves American Football.  He is a big Patriots fan but his second choice is Texas.  We were discussing the Patriot win over the Jets yesterday when Lars came in and said, "Did you hear the Russians have a sister team to the Jets?"  It is the Jetski's"  and then roared in laughter.  What was even funnier to me was the guys telling me what a jet ski was!  It told him  our family was well versed on them.

Elisabeth Bloch wanted to make us Danish television stars.  The national new network came and interviewed Kristian about moving the archives because the building we are in is going to be demolished for a high end secondary school.  Elisabeth wanted Denmark to know about the big help Family Search had been to them.  We were sick and now I am probably never going to have my15 minutes of fame!  I don't know what I will do.

So - duck in Danish is AND.  Donald Duck in Danish is Anders And.  I thought that was funny bit of trivia for everyone.

Noah must be building an ark somewhere around here!

It has pretty much rained steadily since Thursday and is to continue to rain until a week from Wednesday when we will have a 1 day reprieve and then it starts up again.  I would love to see a little sun and soon!

Our Sunday School lessons went well.  I asked why certain questions are throughout the scriptures and JJ - one of the young single adults asked why questions at all?  It took the lesson on a whole different track and was quite eye opening.  I love it when that happens.

We are so looking forward to going to work tomorrow.  It is going to be a good day - even if it is wet.

It is getting dark and cold

We got everything we needed to do to be prepared for the Sabbath.  It has been a bit of a busy day to get caught up with being so out of it for 2 weeks - but we are now on top of things.

Next Sunday we go back to regular time.  That means it will be dark when we come home at 4:30 or 5 and when we leave for work.  Right now the sun is setting at 5:45 and rising at 7:30 - if it rises at all.  We now have to wear a cover-up of some sort when we leave the house.  Shirt sleeves just cannot cut the wind anymore.

What a day!

We went to the temple this morning, did some shopping, had our quarterly interview with President Sederholm and went to Ikea with Elder and Sister Thorne.  We got home at 5 p.m. and made a quick dinner.  We are exhausted.  Have a good day.

New Washer

Our new washer arrived this morning at 11:45.  So excited to have clean clothes again.  Unfortunately the shortest cycle on the new machine is 1 hour 45 minutes.  That is for rapid wash!  Over two hours of the regular cycles.

Last night with the Brooke's was wonderful.  Clyde ran in to get some Nyquil they brought for us and said their apartment is half the size of ours!  Their bathroom is twice as big as ours and actually bigger than the bedroom.  The beds - yes you can only fit 2 twin beds in there and they cannot be put together - fit on either side of the door and touch 3 walls.  So grateful for what we have.  They start work tomorrow.  However this is a week for school to be out and so many offices are closed for a long weekend - somewhat like our Thanksgiving.  Not sure if Fredericksburg offices will be closed or not.

Tivoli is open again for Halloween.  The swings (that spin up in the air) have broomsticks attached to them so the look like you are flying on a broom in air.

Clyde stayed home today.  I ran in to get the number for last week but found only Mikkel and Mona at work.  Everyone else has taken the next few days off because the students are out of school this week.  Mikkel was going home after lunch - so no hurry to get back this week.  We will return Monday fresh and ready to go.

The ping pong ball weather

I think we have moved into the 'ping pong ball' weather affect of Denmark - where the skies are milky white and darkness gets longer and longer.  I am not fond of living in a ping pong ball.  Even when the sky is blue - it is not the brilliant blue of the summer sun.  For the next six months - milky white or light grey will be the color of the skies.

We are off to have dinner at President Sederholm's this evening.  The Brookes,  a couple I have been corresponding with for the last 6 months have arrived and will begin a Family Search mission in Fredericksburg.  I am so looking forward to meeting them face to face.  We have gotten quite close through emails the last little while.

Tomorrow between 10 and 2 the new washer will be delivered.  So excited!  Clyde is going to attempt to go to work tomorrow.  We will se.

Happy Birthay Noah!

Today is Noah Pfiester's birthday.  He is an amazing young man.  He can turn any situation into a party!  You can be in a bad mood and he makes you smile.  He is very smart and does well in school.  I am so glad that Noah is a part our lives and one of our amazing grandchildren.  Noah, have a wonderful day and an incredible year.  We are sorry it has started out not being a fun birthday - but it will be memorable.

I am so sad.  I had to shut the blinds at 5 p.m. this evening because we HAD to turn on lights to see.  Pretty soon we will be going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark - that is if we ever get well enough to go back.  We still have heard nothing about a washer.  Hopefully soon.

Feeling much better...

...well at least I am.  Clyde feels about like I did on Thursday so he is coming to the end of this mess.  That was one of my worst days but then I seemed to turn a corner.  I could have gone to church today except that I was worried the commute would wear me out plus we stop at very unsavory place - Mozart's Plads.  Drunks and prostitutes hang around there and it makes for an uncomfortable place to be.  We have to wait 45 minutes for the next bus - going both ways.  If we just got on a bus and went straight to church, it would be a 15-20 minute ride.  Unfortunately that doesn't work out for any of our trips - ever!  For our own service today we watched the September 14th Music and the Spoken word on You tube (the choir sings 'Come to my Garden' in that one, my daughters.) and then we finished up the last session of conference.  It was a very spiritual morning.

I had to do some laundry by hand.  I had some things that didn't get washed the last time we started the washer - so they had to be rinsed out and hung up.  Clyde also needed some socks - so they were washed also.  I sure hope we get a washer tomorrow or the next day!

Same old - Same old

We are feeling somewhat better.  I am really just congested and weak.  Clyde is full fledged in the middle of his cold.  We will not be attending church tomorrow.  The one hour commute - one way is too overwhelming.  We will shoot for the dinner welcoming the Brookes on Tuesday.  I have been emailing back and forth with Sister Brookes and look forward to meeting this dear friend face to face.

We did get some very light shopping done - the Bakery and Brugsen's.  We got the absolute necessities of life for the next two or three days - no more.

Have a peaceful and spiritual Sabbath.

Sick Day

I am starting to feel somewhat better but still tired and weak.  Clyde is down for the count now and feeling like I did on Monday.  Hopefully he will get better faster than me.

Still no washer.

I am speechless

After spending over 3 hours coughing in the wee hours of the morning, until my ribs and sides hurt, I am now without a voice.  I feel worse today than I have in 2 days.  I am disappointed.  I thought by now I would be back at work.  I also thought we would have a washer by today.  I guess it is time to impose on other senior couples to use their washers.  We better scout around tonight.

Both Home

Clyde woke up not feeling well.  He was exhausted yesterday but went for Branch Visits with the rest of PEC.  He came home so tired last night.  I am not there to help him and things go slower then anyway.  I am at least hungry.  I haven't wanted to eat since Saturday.  I have been craving fresh fruits and vegetables.

Please pray that we get our new washer by Friday.  We don't have a public Laundromat in the area and to drag our clothes across town just seems daunting to me right now.  I will do what needs to be done.

I am sick

I haven't posted for a couple of days because I have been sick.  I have been running a fever and have a cold.  That sums up my life since Saturday afternoon.  I haven't even finished conference yet.  I just did not have the strength last night to watch.  I have managed 1 talk today.  Just breaking records here!  I hope I feel better soon.  Clyde does not do as well without me.  Hopefully tomorrow I will miraculously be healed.

It was a bright day in many ways

The weather was warm and sunny today.  We were able to get everything done we needed to get ready for tomorrow and next week.  We were able to watch the first session of General Conference and I am already forming my goals for the next 6 months.  Tomorrow we will watch the middle 3 sessions and then Monday finish up.

I am getting a sore throat and have had a horrible headache all day.  I am not sure I will write tomorrow.  Depends on how I am doing.

It's dark in the mornings and,,,

THEY turned the heat on at work!  I am NOT ready for that.  We need just a few more hours of daylight and don't need any cool nights.  I don't want winter to come.  I don't like winter at all (except for Christmas and that doesn't count).

We did 6 books today and it felt good.  So happy to be working and doing what we were called to do.  However, this evening I am achy all over and wish we had a bathtub.  Just one more thing to look forward too.

I woman from Spain, came in to talk to Jeppe about the computer system and volunteer program at the archive.  As they were coming through, he told her that we were from Family Search.  She immediately stopped and thanked us for taking time out of our lives to do something so valuable for the world.  She gushed about Family Search and how it has helped millions with the genealogy.  I just smiled and nodded.  I am glad she sees the value in all of this.

Mads comes in every morning singing or whistling.  I have learned that when he feels like life is throwing to much at him - that is when he sings and jokes.  He said that sometimes we need to forget what is 'so important' and look at something from the funny side.  I told him if laughing keeps you healthy that he was doing everyone in the office a favor because we laugh at least 3 or 4 times a day because of something Mad says or does.  Mads also told me that he was glad we had let the office group embrace us as equals and friends.  I said that was easy because they are such great people.  It is true.

Another Gread Day

I think the problem with our cameras has been solved and fixed.  We broke a personal record today for images shot.  We would have done better but had a 20 minute disruption with a fire drill.  Gave us a chance to catch up with our co-workers.  We hadn't seen everyone for over a week.  Stefan came in this morning at 9:00 and wanted to know if he was the first one in.  We told him that no one else had shown up yet.  He said, "That is just wrong.  I am part time and I am here first!"  A few minutes later, Bo came so Stefan wasn't alone for too long.

Elisabeth has spent her time running between the city hall and our offices.  She literally ran through our offices twice today.  I told her she need skates.  She said she needed a jet pack!

Back in the Saddle again!

We got a new hard drive and life was wonderful at work today.  We are back on track.  Now to get into the work groove again.  It has been over a months since we had a productive day at work.  Doesn't take much for this body to forget what is was used too!
